Cambridge-New Cycleways-Velodrome

CAMBRIDGE
Back on the road South again

We left Auckland having attended our middle Grandson’s 21st Birthday and stopped at a POP(park over property) in Cambridge for a few nights to ride on the new cycleways there. Oh, and to do a return visit to Alpino restaurant for another awesome meal and service.

If you have not visited the Velodrome in Cambridge, take to time to view. While I have watched competitions on TV in these facilities I had not realised how STEEP the walls of the track are. What an awesome facility this is.

Newly opened was the purpose built concrete shared cycle/walkway from Hamilton to Cambridge to Karapiro. We did a small section called the River Ride.

ALPINOS RESTAURANT

Robyn says, “This is the best Italian we have had outside of Italy.” I have to admit that I agree-we loved it. The Alpino Restaurant in Cambridge is 5 star. The varied menu and service was top drawer. Suggest sitting at the bar as we did and watch the action while conversing with the bar staff who were our waiter as well.

Heading North to Karamea Leaving Westport for Karamea takes you on the only road north along the coast initially. We stopped half way on this journey at the Gentle Annie’s Campground. If you have not stayed here you will miss
