Orewa beach

Orewa Beach and neighbour Hatfield’s Beach have a lot to offer travellers to this region.

The Estuary at the South end of the beach is a good start point to the 8klm flat and an easy ride of the cycle/walkway. This ride or walk follows the Estuary inland and returns to the Orewa bridge.

This end of the beach is where the Orewa Campground is located with good facilities. My daily ride through the campground and around the Estuary was a great start to the day and this was often when I took my photographs.

Little known but much loved, is the Orewa lake. Actually it is a large pond where dog walkers congregate to walk around the 1klm walkway. 2-3 times a year the community in this area meet to trim trees and shrubs and remove weed from the lake.

Hatfield’s Beach offers a boat ramp, toilets and dump station and the opportunity to stay 3 nights 20m from the beach. During Lockdown we stayed here a month. At the South end of Hatfield’s at low tide you could walk to Orewa beach around the cliff and over rocks.
