6 Klm from Ohope town and down Harbour Road on the peninsula is Port Ohope adjacent to the Golf Course. This beautiful area of park, boat ramp and toilets also has a dedicated Freedom Camping site.
The campsite is literally 10 steps from the beach on the Harbour side. We swam there with our dog, Fletcher, on arrival. Met a lovely couple, Lois and Peter Fergusson who shared their story.
After our two nights at Port Ohope we moved into town to Maraetotara reserve which is situated behind the shops on the Ocean beach. What a contrast in the water, scenery and activities compared to the Port location.
At Maraetotara reserve there is water and a dump station there and room for about 8-10 vehicles for two nights maximum. The night we parked in the Freedom designated area there was 12! Too many really. However, you are just metres from the beach and park. For your morning coffee fix try MOXI CAFE on the main drag. Met Lorraine and Stu who are building a house behind the Four Square.
We returned to Ohope Beach after getting some alterations done to our awning in Tauranga. We had our second meal at the best Mexican Restaurant we have been to. The restaurant on the main drag in Ohope is called Cadera Bar and Restaurant.
The Mexican food there is outstanding. Try the homemade corn chips and hot cheese sauce dip for starters with Mexican Lager from Gisbourne.
The brand of Mexican Larger is from Sunshine Brewery in Gisbourne. It is a sweet larger to taste and now my favourite. We will visit their Brewery room when in Gisbourne in two weeks time to sample others in their range and take home my now favourite.
