Pauanui-million dollar views

Pauanui sunrise

Our first stopover out of Auckland lock-down was to Pauanui, Coromandel Peninsula.

This was the first opportunity to test towing our 2 door manual Suzuki on a long haul, up hills and windy roads to Pauanui.

The hook-up of the A Frame attached to the Suzuki and to the Motorhome took about 30 minutes to assemble. The Suzuki was easy to tow but as we cannot back up with an A Frame, we were conscious that we did not want to get in a situation where we would have to do backing in the Motorhome while hooked up to tow.

Where to stay in Pauanui

We were fortunate that we had a place to park our Motorhome by a generous resident in Pauanui. However, there is three locations that are available to park your Caravan or Motorhome.

OPTION ONE

Royal Billy Point at the North end of Pauanui peninsula has a few spots for self contained vehicles that can stay 48hours.

The million dollar view from these sites and access to the ferry to take you to Tairua on the other side if the Estuary is worth a look.

OPTION TWO is at the South end of Pauanui Beach, There is toilets, tables and Barbecue. There are spaces for 3-4 Motorhomes or RV’s. The area is for self-contained vehicles only for a 48hr stay.

OPTION THREE is at the Sport and Recreation Centre Campsite. There is power, water, toilets, shower, dump station and access to the Sport and Recreation Club. There is space for about 7-8 RV’s.(click the link to find out details)

OPTION FOUR

The Pauanui Glade Holiday Park on Vista Paku is available for those wanting all services including kitchen, laundry, Wifi, power, water, toilets, showers and barbecues. (click the link to find out details)

Heading North to Karamea Leaving Westport for Karamea takes you on the only road north along the coast initially. We stopped half way on this journey at the Gentle Annie’s Campground. If you have not stayed here you will miss
