WAIROA

Leaving Mahia for Napier  and Hastings we decided to stop along the way in Wairoa which is 49klm from Mahia peninsula.

We loved the Riverside Campground in sleepy Wairoa with it’s garden art, shade trees, communal barbecues and friendly staff. Well done, Wairoa Council.

Wairoa has such a great community spirit and recreation facilities for the residents here. The Adventure Wairoa facility next to the campground houses, outrigger canoes, kayaks, mountain bikes, rowing skiffs and gym. While there we were invited to view inside and meet the staff and school group just back from a river row.

Eastend Cafe for great service, food options and Cafe not to be missed.

KARAMEA

Heading North to Karamea Leaving Westport for Karamea takes you on the only road north along the coast initially. We stopped half way on this journey at the Gentle Annie’s Campground. If you have not stayed here you will miss
